Turning wood into works of art.
Kim Blatt is a creative at heart. He began his art career at an
early age, showing a natural talent for drawing and painting.
He pursued his interest in art by studying Advertising Design
at the New York Institute of Technology in Westbury, Long
Island. Kim completed his Bachelors Degree of Fine Arts with
a major in Communication Design in 1975 at Kutztown University.
Kim continued his education with studies at The School of
Visual Arts in New York City from 1975 through 1977.
After a 28 year career in Advertising and Marketing, Kim focused
on his true passion, working with wood as a 3-dimensional
outlet.
Today, Kim's turnings incorporate a combination of
sophisticated, traditional shapes with a complementary flair.
His work is now focusing on surface embellishments, not as
an interpretation of nature, but as a way of adding depth and
movement to his forms. Kim's embellishment techniques
include carving, burning, dyeing, engraving, painting and
adding acrylic resins and various metals to enhance the natural
beauty of the wood itself.
Each piece is then hand finished with 12 coats of acrylic
lacquer and hand buffed to perfection.
